Kadhi Pakora

Punjabi kadhi Pakora is one dish I crave for most the the time & always find an excuse to make it, it goes well with Rice & Chapati. One day old kadhi taste much much better. Here we go with my version of Kadhi-Pakora. 🙂

Ingredients for Pakora :

  • 1/2 cup besan (chickpea flour)
  • 1/4 tsp Ajwain (carom seeds)
  • 1/2 tsp chilly powder
  • Enough water to make the batter
  • Salt to tast
  • 1/2 Chopped Onion
  • Chopped green chilly
  • Oil to fry

For the Kadhi

  • 1 cup plain whole milk yogurt, slightly sour
  • 2-3 tbsp besan (chickpea flour)
  • 2.5 – 3 cups water

For Tempering

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder (adjust to tolerance)
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp crushed kasuri methi, (dried fenugreek leaves, give a great flavor but can be skipped if not available)
  • 1-2 whole red chilly
  • Generous pinch of hing powder
  • Few Curry leaves (optional)
  • 1/2 Chopped Onion
  • 1-2 Chopped green chilly
  • 2-3 chopped garlic
  • Salt to taste

Process

  1. Take curd & water in a bowl,jug etc,mix well.

2. Mix Besan & make a lump free smooth mix. Let stand.

3. In a separate bowl ,mix besan with chopped onions, chillies, Carom seeds,chilly powder,salt.

4. Make a smooth batter to make Pakoras.

4. Fry small pakoras.

5.In a heavy bottomed pot, heat oil ,add hing, cumin, & red chillies, then add chopped onions,garlic, green chillies,Kari paatta,crushed Kasoori methi & fry. Add the spices now( turmeric, chilly powder,coriander powder & fry for a min.

6. Add the besan-yogurt mixture and mix thoroughly.

7. Let the kadhi come to a boil.Boil it for 3-4 min.

8. Add the Pakoras & salt to taste now & let it simmer for 5-8 min.

9. Serve with Rice 🙂 Ting 🙂 !!!!

    That looks yummm!! Thanks for sharing it. But can I make it without the onions in kadhi? Will the taste differ too much? Any idea?
